Garden of love

"Interesting History"

"A 1970 press ad for a perfume named after Lahore’s historic Shalimar Garden"

Our story begins in India , some 300 years ago , it belongs , however to no place and no time.
His name was Shah Jahan, ruler of India . Her name was Mumtaz Mahal , the loveliest of his wives.
And although he had many wives, it was only for her that his soul thirsted.

Some say that he loved her unto madness , that she was not his wife, but his fever. But in his eyes she was the balm that made the world bearable.'
Victories , new empires and riches  were as dust compared to her.
So great was his love for her that when she died, he would not let her die. He had built in her memory a place you may still see and wonder.

               THE TAJ MAHAL
But long before there could be a TAJ MAHAL , there had to be yet another place which the Shah also built. The Garden of Shalimar in Lahore ,
All   that the Taj Mahal keep alive for the  ages flowered in Shalimar.   Here it was that  their love grew and became a legend.
Its very name , Shalimar , means abode  of love in Sanskrit  .
And truly it was.
The Shah allowed into this garden only those things which  would nourish their love, Joyful fountains. Deep   limpid pools, marble terraces, rare song birds, Fragrant blossoms from every corner of the Earth. Lanterns to rival the stars.
Only in "Shalimar" were they truly alone. Thus, even tough   they are  manly miles apart, if you wish to see  the foundations of The Taj Mahal , you must look for them in "Shalimar".
All this , dear reader , was also told to Pierre and Jacques Guerlain by a "Mahraja". It was in Paris , in 1926 .
Naturally, being a human , being French , and being , above all "Guerlain" , they were deeply moved. They decided to pay homage to this man and woman by creating a perfume of intoxicating, yes subtle sensuousness. A perfume not for children.
They decided also , that this perfume should not be called "Taj Mahal"  but "Shalimar".
You see the Taj Mahal marks the end of story. And this perfume has nothing to do with endings .

Story of The Capital Of Pakistan

"Story of The Capital Of Pakistan"

When Pakistan gained Independence in 1947, Karachi was its first capital. In 1960, Islamabad was constructed as a forward capital for several reasons. Traditionally, development in Pakistan was focused on the colonial centre of Karachi, and President Ayub Khan wanted it to be equally distributed. Moreover, Karachi was located at one end of the country, making it vulnerable to attacks from the Arabian Sea. A capital which was easily accessible from all parts of the country was needed. The newly selected location of Islamabad was closer to army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the disputed territory of Kashmir in the North.

In 1958, a commission was constituted to select a suitable site for the national capital with particular emphasis on location, climate, logistics, and defence requirements along with other attributes. After extensive study, research, and a thorough review of potential sites, the commission recommended the area northeast of Rawalpindi
The capital was not moved directly from Karachi to Islamabad; it was first shifted temporarily to Rawalpindi and then to Islamabad when the development was completed.

The Greek architect Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis was the lead architect of Islamabad. He is seen here, standing on a specially contrived platform to discusses the scale model of Pakistan’s new capital Islamabad with aides.

The Pakistan Women’s National Guard

"The Pakistan Women’s National Guard"

Pakistan Women’s National Guard (P. W. N. G.) and the Pakistan Women Naval Reserve (P. W. N. R.) was formed  in 1949. Begum Ra’ana was the Chief Controller of both, with the rank of a Brigadier. Viewed in the perspective of the partition massacres, where helpless women had been brutally treated, the idea was not entirely unrealistic. The P. W. N. G. and P. W. N. R. could not survive for long and were disbanded soon after Ra’ana Liaquat Ali went abroad as Pakistan’s Ambassador.

Sialkot Clock Tower

  "Sialkot Clock Tower"

Clock Tower is situated in Saddar Bazar, Sialkot. It appears to be like a giant pin, keeping the busy and bustling streets of the city and the well-planned,tranquil portions of the cantonment area together. Standing tall for more than a century, the tower would have been witness to many a time of upheaval and change. Sheikh Ghulam Qadir and Seth Rai Bahadur laid its foundation stone
Sialkot is the birthplace of the Muslim philosopher, scholar and poet, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, as well as the famous Urdu poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Another prominent figure from Sialkot was the eminent philosopher Professor William Lilly who taught at the Murray College.

                     "Toli Pir"

Toli Pir is a magnificent hilltop area in the Poonch District of Azad Kashmir. It's approximate height is about 8800 ft above sea level. Abbaspur, Bagh and Poonch River can be viewed from Toli Pir. Toli Pir is the highest mountainous location in the northeastern area of Rawalakot; it is the point of origin of three different mountain ridges. There are some remains of an old mazar on the highest hilltop with many mystic stories associated to it.

This place is good to visit in the summer because it is full of greenery and easy to access there but is hard to go there in the winter because of plenty of snow up there the road get blocked so if you like to go there in winter you should have to be proper equipped and have to carry your stuff up to the top of Toli Pir.
